JOSE REYES

Producer Profile

Ever since Jose Antonio was nine years old, helping his father in the coffee fields has been his passion. Five years ago, he bought a piece of land, and also made it his home. Everyone in his family is involved in coffee production, from hand-picking to processing. Jose Antonio says he wants his children to explore the world and go to college, but he first wants them to learn their family’s craft. His farm, Finca Los Reyes, has now gained recognition, especially this past year when he won the “Bracamoros Coffee” competition. Jose’s F1 variety is super sweet, round, and reminds us of red apple, nougat, and maple syrup.

Loja

Loja province is located in the South of Ecuador and boasts high Andean altitudes of up to 2,250 masl. Situated between the Amazon basin and the Sechura desert, the province is blessed with many different microclimates including alpine tundras, cloud forest, and jungles. Loja accounts for about 20% of Ecuador's Arabica coffee production, with the region's mountainous geography and diverse microclimates, providing immense potential for high-quality coffee.

F1 Hybrid

F1 Hyrbids are class or type of varieties made by crossing two genetically distant parents and using the first generation (F1) progeny. There are many F1 Hybrids being developed across the coffee growing world.

Washed

Jose Antonio begins this washed lot by picking the ripest cherries, which he then floats to remove any under/over-ripes. Once they arrive at the wet mill, they are de-pulped and dry fermented for 48 hours and then washed and dried on raised beds for approximately 15 to 20 days, depending on the climate, ensuring constant movement for an even drying process.
