FAQ

Q: When will my subscription arrive?

A: Subscriptions are shipped on the first Wednesday of every month. We generate shipping labels in advance of roasting. Expect a delay between notification of shipping label generation and actual ship date. Rest assured that your subscription will be picked up by Canada Post (CAN) or UPS (US/International) on the first Wednesday of the month. Tracking will update once the courier has scanned your order.

Q: How many different coffees will I receive?

Filter coffees repeat after three bags and espresso repeats after two bags. For example, if you subscribe to five bags of filter coffee and three bags of espresso you would receive 2 x filter #1, 2 x filter #2, 1 x filter 3, 2 x espresso #1, and 1 x espresso #2. Please note our decaf offerings only change a few times a year and, as such, you will receive the same decaf for a few months in a row. Milk espresso subscriptions contain one coffee, regardless of the number of bags.  

Q: Can I add other items to my subscription?

A: Yes! However, you can only do so once your subscription is active. *DO NOT ADD OTHER ITEMS TO YOUR CART WHEN YOU PLACE YOUR FIRST SUBSCRIPTION ORDER * Once your subscription is active you will be able to log in and add items as either a one-time purchases or in some cases, as an ongoing subscription item. Please note that the window to add items to your subscription is 7 days before the charge date. You can not add items outside of that window. This is to ensure that we don't sell out of the coffee you're adding to your order. You will receive an email letting you know that the window to add items to your order is open.

Q: How do I change my subscription?

A: Once subscribed, you can log in to your account and change you subscription through the "Manage Subscription" link. From there, you can adjust the number of bags you receive, add/swap products, pause, skip, or cancel your membership, all directly from within the subscriber portal.

Q: Can I change the frequency of my subscription?

A: No, subscriptions ship out once per month, on the first Wednesday of the month.

Q: Can I pause my subscription or skip a month?

A: Yes! You can log in to your account and pause your subscription or skip a month before the charge date for your next shipment. Need a bit extra or a bit less coffee one month? You can even pause, skip, or adjust a specific product in your subscription.

Q: What is the order cutoff for first time subscribers?

A: Order by the 24th of the month to receive the next subscription shipment. If you order after the 24th of the month, then your first shipment will fall on the subsequent subscription. For example, if you order before April 25th, you will receive the May subscription. If you order on or after April 25th, your first shipment will be in June.

Q: I have multiple Subtext subscriptions. Can I combine them into one order/shipment?

A: Yes you can combine your subscriptions into one order from the customer portal.

Q:  Do I get new coffees every order?

A: Subtext Coffee Subscribers and Reserve Subscribers get all new coffees each month. Milk Espresso Subscribers may, at times, receive the same coffee two months in a row.

Q: Should I rest my coffee?

A: Yes, we reccommend resting all of our coffee for 2-3 weeks.   You can absolutely get good brews after the first week but balance and clarity benefit meaningfully with more time.  

Q: Are there any tips on how to brew the coffee?

A: Yes, we send out coffee specific recipes to your email each month.

Q: What's the difference between espresso and filter?

A: Espresso is developed (roasted) a little further than our filter to make it easier to work with on espresso, but it is by no means dark and colour tracks in a similar range to other roasters' filter roasts. Roasting a bit futher than our filter roasts helps balance acidity at espresso concentrations and decreases density to help espresso grinders grind fine enough.  

Q: Will I get exclusive coffees?

A: Subtext Reserve Subscribers will receive exclusive coffee a few times a year. Three bag and up Subtext Coffee Subscribers will occasionally receive exclusive filter coffee.
